and Compliance fields. He is the

Matt began
his career in January of 1986
with First |

Maryland
Bancorp, a wholly owned
subsidiary of Allied |

Irish
Bank PLC. In 1987 Matt trained
and traded on |

AIB’s
Foreign Exchange desk in the
City of London. |
|
During
the following fifteen years as
Vice President of |
|
Global
Proprietary Trading for First
Maryland |
|
Bancorp,
and eventually its successor
Allfirst Financial |
|
When
Allfirst exited this business
line, Matt took a |
|
position
with Morgan Stanley as a
Financial Advisor in |
|
May
of 2003. In February of
2009, Matt joined |
|
Synergy
Financial Group, LPL as an
independent |
|
Financial
consultant to provide better
service and |
|
local
decision making for his clients. |
|
|
|
After
hearing of the work that African
Promise was |
|
doing
for kids who desperately want to
learn and |
|
succeed,
Matt asked to serve on the
committee and |
|
involve
his children with a cause in
which they could |
|
actively
participate. |

Charles Coldman (Founder

Charles is the 24-year-old
founder of the charity. He |
|
first experienced Africa
when he visited a school in |
|
Tanzania with a group from
his own secondary school. |
|
He returned to Africa -
this time to Kenya - with the |
|
volunteer organisation
Africa & Asia Venture (AV) |
|
just over a year later.
Africa got under his skin. In |
|
late 2006, after
graduating with a business
degree |
|
from Exeter university,
Charles spent six months |
|
in Kenya managing our very
first school development. |
|
Two years on, he now lives
in Kenya directing our |
|
operations on the ground
and our fundraising back in |
|
the UK.

Denis Mwanyiro (Project
Assistant) |

Denis has become the
second member of the team |
|
working on the ground in
Kenya. He is 24 years-old |
|
and from the village of
Jora where his family run the |
|
local 'supermarket'.
Having successfully completed a |
|
month long trial, Denis
has now been employed to |
|
assist Charles with the
day-to-day activities of the |
|
charity but with a view of
ultimately taking on project |
|
management responsibility
in the future. |

Nicola, aged 52, spent 10 years
working as a Broker |

and subsequently a Senior

responsibility for a Reinsurance
Broker in London |

before the arrival of three
children - one of whom is |

founder Charles. She has been
Treasurer and |
|
Fundraiser for a local branch of
the charity Wellbeing |
|
and is currently Treasurer of
Hever School Governors |
|
Fund. She is a classroom
assistant at Hever Primary |
|
School where she is also
Vice-Chairman of the
|
|
Governing Body. |

Graham Coldman |
|
|
Graham, aged 64, spent 35 years
in the Banking and |
|
Finance Industry as a Senior
Manager with NatWest. |
|
Following retirement in 1995 he
ran his own sales |
|
consultancy company. He has been
involved with the |
|
Citizens Advice Bureau in
Edenbridge, Kent for the |
|
past
10 years as a Volunteer Advisor
and latterly as |
|
Deputy
Manager. He is a Trustee of
several charities |
|
and is
Chairman of the Management
Committee of |
|
Holcot, a
young people's holiday hostel in Edenbridge. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Geoff Marshall
|
|
|
After taking a Law Degree at
King's College London, |
|
Geoff worked on programmes in
New York designed |
|
to improve the educational
opportunities of |
|
disadvantaged children. On
returning to the UK, he |
|
embarked on a
career in Retailing and
eventually |
|
became Managing
Director of The Body Shop (UK)
Ltd |
|
and of The Conran
Shops Ltd. He was a pension fund
|
|
Trustee in both companies.
Since retiring, he has |
|
been a non-Executive
Director/Chairman of both a |
|
publishing and a retail company and
has acted as a |
|
consultant to a wide
variety of other businesses,
from |
|
pharmaceuticals to design. He has for the last 7
years |
|
been a Justice of the
Peace, hearing Adult Crime and
|
|
Family cases as well as
appeals in the Crown Court. |
|
He also mentors and
appraises new Magistrates and is
|
|
a member of the
Probation Liaison Committee. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
